Product: Petlife Oxbow Timothy Hay

Bag sizes: 425g or 1.1kg

You will go far to beat the great quality that this hay offers. Smells wonderful like you have just picked it from the field. Nice long thick strands and as they are smaller quantities, will be checked to see that it is the best quality that is being placed into a bag. Oxbow has been around since 1980 and is a brand that is known worldwide and comes from the sunny climate of America. It is recongnised by guinea pig owners and vets alike to be a great quality product. Usually contains seed heads that don’t provide much in nutritional value but guinea pigs love eating them. The hay is a nice green, yellow and brown colour. There is no moldy dust or damp appearance and it is more expensive than some other brands but in my opinion well worth the money to keep your pets happy. It is part and parcel to have some hay dust in the bags, it can be annoying as it’s not very useful to your guinea pig, but very difficult not to include this when they are picking the hay.

They care about what goes into each bag or box and that makes me appreciate the effort they go to. There is a lovely graphic diagram on all hay products that shows what the taste and texture is like, showing a rank out of five. There is really not a lot of brands that do this, so it’s nice to have something like this. I love that there is a smaller 425g bag available to buy so you can just have this amount to mix in with other hays. Some brands do not sell less than 1kg bags, so it is nice to see. When I first opened up the hay it was one of most wonderful smells I have ever had the pleasure to smell. I have used it for some time now and have been rarely disappointed. Of course whatever the weather has been like in the part of America it is grown will dictate what type of hay you will get each time. So I bet you want to know what are the nutritional values, so here they are.

Nutritional values

Crude Protein: 7%

Crude Fat: 1.5%

Crude Fibre: 32%

Moisture: 15%

So we can see that the fibre content is where it needs to be and is perfect at this level. There is low calcium, fat and protein which makes it spot on for guinea pigs. The bags are so easy to open as there is a line that you tear along and it works well. It will go brilliantly with oxbows other types of hay that they sell like oat and meadow.
